The Dream Cow Legend
Origin of the proverb “Led by a Cow to Zenkoji”
A greedy old woman was washing clothes by the river when a cow appeared, hooked her laundry with its horn, and ran off.
She chased after it and, before she knew it, arrived at Zenkoji Temple.
Realizing the cow was a manifestation of Kannon (the Goddess of Mercy), she repented her ways.
